Volo Bevza (b. 1993, Kyiv, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian artist, curator, and educator based in Berlin. Working across painting, digital image processing, and installation, his practice explores the omnipresence of digital imagery and the evolving role of painting in the post digital age. Drawing on photography, photogrammetry, computer generated imagery, and gestural abstraction, he transforms fragments of media, digital artefacts, and contemporary image culture into layered pictorial spaces that question perception, memory, and the reliability of visual information.
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Bevza's work has increasingly reflected on the politics of images in times of conflict, examining how war is mediated, manipulated, and remembered through digital technologies. His paintings merge authentic photographs, digitally generated forms, and expressive painterly gestures, dissolving the boundaries between abstraction and representation while exposing the instability of contemporary visual culture.
Bevza studied stage design at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv before completing his Diploma and Meisterschüler in painting at weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. Since 2021, he has been an artistic associate at weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Museum Bensheim, Galerie Crone (Berlin and Vienna), Serpen Gallery, Mironova Foundation, WT Foundation, and Lobe Block, and has been presented in exhibitions across Berlin, Vienna, Kyiv, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Leipzig, Cologne, and Linz. In 2023, he received the Artwork of the Year Award from the VHV Foundation.
