Jerónimo Rüedi

Jerónimo Rüedi (b. 1981, Mendoza, Argentina) lives and works in Mexico City, Mexico. Jerónimo Rüedi builds layered surfaces on canvas and panel to create immersive visual spaces where perception is constantly unsettled. Smudges hover like scratches on a lens while delicate, scribbled forms emerge from within the painting's depths. These accumulated gestures generate optical distortions that fracture perception, producing shifting relationships between image, space, and thought.

Working with wax, resins, pigments, and airbrush, Rüedi conjures forms that appear to materialize like smoke. Multiple dimensions seem compressed onto a single surface, where clusters of half articulated signs oscillate between abstraction and representation, image and language. His paintings reject conventional systems of depiction, instead proposing a visual experience rooted in ambiguity, intuition, and presence.

Closely informed by the philosophy and practice of meditation, Rüedi embraces John Cage's notion of "getting oneself out of the way," allowing forms to emerge with minimal intervention. His paintings can be understood as attempts to observe cognition before it becomes crystallized thought, perception before language.

Rüedi studied at the Escola Massana in Barcelona and received his Fine Arts degree from the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Mendoza. Recent solo exhibitions include Preaesns, Bureau, New York (2025); And Between Us Occurs the Following Conversation, Galerie Nordenhake, Berlin (2025); Yanhuitlán, Museo del Ex Convento de Yanhuitlán, Oaxaca (2024); Tabula Rasa, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca (2024); Systems, Galerie Nordenhake, Mexico City (2024); and Khōra, Galerie Nordenhake, Stockholm (2023). His work has been presented in group exhibitions at Museo Jumex, Museo Carrillo Gil, Museo Tamayo, and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca, and is held in the collections of Museo Jumex, MUAC, Museo Amparo, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca, and Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil.

Rüedi has been an artist in residence at Casa Wabi (2023) and Museo Experimental El Eco (2016), has published three artist books, and is a co founder of Aeromoto, Mexico City's public library for contemporary art and culture. Forthcoming solo exhibitions include Museo Experimental El Eco (2026) and the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City (2027).
