Jean-Baptiste Durand

Presentation
Jean-Baptiste Durand is a French designer and multidisciplinary artist whose work fluidly navigates between design, ceramics, and scenography. Blending industrial and artisanal techniques with a highly intuitive approach, Durand draws inspiration from motorsports, wabi-sabi philosophy, and everyday materials to create objects that blur the line between function and form. Formerly a collaborator at Mathieu Lehanneur’s studio, he co-founded Atelier Super in Le Havre in 2020, where he deepened his relationship with ceramics and embraced a slower, more experimental practice. Known for his bold material juxtapositions and “sampling” process, Durand resists categorization, focusing on visual impact over conceptual theory. His work gained new momentum following his breakout at Paris Design Week 2023, marking a return to personal expression and a growing presence on the international design scene. He currently lives and works in France, developing projects that span collectible design, interiors, and collaborative exhibitions.
