Anne de Vries

Anne de Vries (b. 1977, The Hague, Netherlands) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans video installations, dioramas, sculpture, mixed media collage, publications, and site-specific interventions. His practice constructs intricate narrative systems that intertwine popular culture, subcultures, and fictional characters, forming a labyrinthine cosmos of hybrid realities. De Vries explores interconnectivity as both subject and method, often blurring distinctions between natural and artificial, technological and emotional, speculative and documentary.

His work invites viewers into a space of interpretive play, where objects and scenarios resist fixed meaning and instead prompt reflection on perception, function, and storytelling. These layered assemblages not only reflect the fragmented visual logic of contemporary media environments but also illuminate the shifting ways in which meaning is constructed in a post-digital world.

De Vries has exhibited widely at institutions and biennials including KUMU Art Museum (Tallinn), ZKM (Karlsruhe), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Frans Hals Museum (Haarlem), MAMbo (Bologna), Foam Museum (Amsterdam), Centre Culturel Suisse (Paris), PS1 MoMA (New York), New Wight Biennial (Los Angeles), Manifesta Foundation, Momentum Nordic Biennale (Moss, NO), and The 9th Berlin Biennale. His works have also been shown at Museum Angewandte Kunst (Frankfurt), Cell Project Space (London), The Moving Museum (Istanbul), and FRAGILE (Berlin), among others.
