Pedro Moraes
Biography
Pedro Moraes (b. 1990, São Paulo) lives and works in Berlin, where he studied Fine Arts at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. Starting from a pictorial mode of thinking, he develops his work through a process-based practice toward a formally technical visual language.
Between organic condensation and industrial precision, a field of tension emerges in which nature and social order overlap. His works bear traces of extraction and consumption; they speak of the gradual erosion of human self-projection and return to the elemental materiality of existence.
A conceptual artist, Moraes concerns himself with materiality and decay, with human metabolism and with the ways the natural world shapes our surroundings. Trained in product design, he belongs to a dwindling breed of artists who fabricate their own work to an exacting level of execution. His practice is driven by wit and sharp, intelligent questions: not polemics, but ideas.
