Elizabeth Glaessner

Elizabeth Glaessner (b. 1984, Palo Alto, California) is an American painter based in Brooklyn, New York.

Glaessner's paintings construct vivid, dreamlike worlds where figures, landscapes, and organic forms exist in a continuous state of transformation. Drawing from art history, mythology, psychology, and popular culture, she creates fluid compositions that resist fixed narratives, instead unfolding as open-ended allegories shaped by intuition and metamorphosis.

Working with layered oil paint and poured pigments, Glaessner embraces chance as an essential part of her process. Her luminous surfaces emerge through successive veils of colour, allowing forms to dissolve, merge, and reappear within ambiguous spaces. Human, animal, and vegetal elements intertwine, inhabiting surreal landscapes liberated from conventional notions of morality, identity, and time. Balancing expressive gesture with meticulous painterly control, her work invites viewers into psychologically charged environments where the subconscious takes precedence over rational interpretation.

Glaessner received her BA from Trinity University and her MFA from the New York Academy of Art. Her work has been presented in solo exhibitions at P·P·O·W, New York, Perrotin, Paris and Tokyo, François Ghebaly, Los Angeles, and Le Consortium, Dijon, and has been included in exhibitions at institutions and galleries including the FLAG Art Foundation, New York, Timothy Taylor, New York, Kasmin, New York, and Asia Art Center, Taipei.
