Max Wetter (Born in 1991 (Karlsruhe, Germany) lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany) painting moves between the symbolic and the structural, between archaic sign systems and contemporary visual culture. A graduate of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Meisterschüler of Prof. Andreas Schulze, 2022), Wetter constructs complex pictorial spaces populated by geometric and organic forms — tents, antennas, landscapes, and abstract architectures that resist easy categorisation.
His canvases operate as open systems: layered, allusive, and often monumental in scale. Oil and oil pastel are applied with deliberate physicality, creating surfaces that oscillate between painterly gesture and graphic precision. Wetter draws on a wide range of visual sources — from folk ornament and pop imagery to signal systems and technical diagrams — integrating them into a pictorial language that is at once personal and culturally expansive.
Wetter graduated as Meisterschüler of Prof. Andreas Schulze from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 2022. Wetter’s work is held in collections including the NRW Bank Düsseldorf and Horváth & Partners Stuttgart, as well as numerous private collections. Since 2020 he is also active as curator and organiser of the off-space exhibition series b10b.series, Düsseldorf. In 2021 he received the Deutschlandstipendium Düsseldorf and in 2019 the Stipendium der Apo Bank Deutschland / K21 Düsseldorf.
